NHWCA® Healthcare Workers Certification Bridge Program – No Exam Required
Earn your national NHWCA® certification through verified work experience — no exam required. This pathway recognizes professionals who already perform the job safely and competently under accredited employers.
NHWCA® pioneered the work-experience certification pathway in 1995. In the late 2000s, other boards introduced similar routes—often following the model NHWCA® established.

Integrity & Public Safety
The bridge route is not a shortcut. Confirmed credentials appear in the NHWCA® National Registry with the route noted for transparency.
Renewal (Annual)
Bridge-earned credentials renew annually under the same policy as exam-earned credentials. To maintain Active status in the Registry, certificants must document either:
- 1,000 hours of role-relevant practice in the prior year; or
- 10 CEUs aligned to the credential’s domains (if < 1,000 hours).
CPR must be current if required by the credential.
